Nature Walk and History Talk at Springer's Point (Rain Location Community Center)
The Coastal Land Trust’s Springer’s Point Preserve on Ocracoke Island is the perfect spot to spend the morning bird watching or the afternoon hiking and sitting on the beach overlooking the Pamlico Sound. This tranquil Preserve was opened to the public on May 20, 2006 and encompasses more than 120 acres of maritime forest, tidal red cedar forest, salt marsh, wet grasslands and sound front beach. Join island historian, Philip Howard, and entomologist, Kane Lawhorn, as they walk you through the natural and human history of Springers Point.

The walk will include the use of citizen/community science phone applications (e.g., iNaturalist, Seek, and PlantNet), and downloading them prior to the walk is highly encouraged. All three apps can be found in the Apple/Google Play Store for free. Kane will also be collecting and identifying insects along the hike, but supplies are limited. Insect enthusiasts are encouraged to bring their own equipment (e.g., nets, jars, hand lens, etc.) to facilitate collecting.
